Push-ups, stomach crunches, squats, sit-ups and calf raises are some exercises demonstrated on the show “Body Electric.” The show is created, hosted and produced by Margaret Richard. The show focuses on numerous types of low-impact exercises, including aerobic exercises, weight-bearing exercises, floor exercises, abdominal exercises and stretching exercises.
“Body Electric” aired for the first time in 1984 on PBS. As of January 2016, the show has aired more than 500 episodes. It is the first TV fitness show to use weights for light resistance exercises and popular music as background music. In addition to the show, Margaret Richard has also released DVDs, videos and books on fitness.
