Throughout the year, the Frederick County Fairgrounds hosts open horse shows, pageants, senior citizen nights, monster truck shows, truck and tractor pulls, livestock sales and demolition derbies. The Frederick County Fair has an event catalog of its own. Fair attendees enjoy amusement rides and concessions, while the Virginia Fair Association judges and awards winners of various contests and competitions.
The contests and competitions focus on entertainment and youth education. The following events are available for participation at the Frederick County Fair: the Little and Pre-Teen Miss Frederick Pageant, the Golden Horseshoe 4H Club Open Horse Show, the County Fair Market Goat Sale, Bubble Gum Blowing Contest, Box Turtle Derby, Apple Pie Eating Contest, Tot Pig Scramble, Mutton Busting and a Youth Pet Show. There also are canning competitions, where judges focus on canned fruit, vegetables, jam, jellies, preserves and pickles. Agricultural competitions include categories such as fruit and vegetable display, consumer appeal, and honey-jar and honeycomb appearance.
Horse-riding classes are available for children and adults at the 4H Open Horse Show. The Frederick County Fair Market Goat Sale showcases the grand champion goat and the grand champion runner up.Learn more about Art & Literature
