Full Answer

In the original 2001 version of the Disney Princess lineup, Tinker Bell from "Peter Pan" was considered a princess. She was dropped from the lineup thereafter, as she did not fit the qualifications of a princess, namely, being born into royalty or having married into a royal family. This left Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas and Mulan as the original seven Disney Princesses.

Of the later additions to the Disney Princess lineup, Tiana from "The Princess and the Frog" was added on March 14, 2010, with Rapunzel following in 2011 and Merida from the Pixar film "Brave" in 2013. Despite the popularity of the film "Frozen," the characters Anna and Elsa are not considered official Disney Princesses, as of 2015.

A large collection of Disney Princess merchandise is available for sale, ranging from clothes and toys to dolls and home decor items. Original videos featuring the princesses outside of their originating films have also been released. Live-action versions of the Disney Princesses are also present at Disney's theme parks.
