The 2014 film version of the musical "Annie" was directed by Will Gluck and starred Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz. Mr. Gluck also produced the film and was given a writing credit.
Will Gluck previously directed the successful films "Easy A" starring Emma Stone and "Friends With Benefits" with Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. The original stage musical of "Annie," as well as the 1982 film adaptation, was based on the cartoon "Little Orphan Annie" by Harold Gray, about a plucky young girl in Depression-era New York. The new version was "contemporized" and set in 2014 with a multiracial cast. Gluck and Matt Sullivan, the executive music supervisor, worked together with artist Sia and producer Greg Kurstin to update songs. The 2014 film was originally to be produced by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith for their daughter, Willow.
