Lettering styles are also referred to as fonts. There are five basic types of font, as of 2015. Serif fonts contain serifs, which are little projections, at the end of most strokes. Fixed-width fonts are similar to old typewriter lettering where each letter is the same width. Sans-serif fonts are types of fonts without any serifs.
Cursive fonts are similar to cursive handwriting, and fantasy fonts feature fancy and artistic accents. Other types of lettering in calligraphy include modern, old English, Roman, romantic and runic. Calligraphy is defined as fancy penmanship or highly decorative handwriting.
There are also different types of lettering used in graffiti art. Some of these styles are wildstyle, bubble letters, fat cap, shadow letters and calligraffiti. Wildstyle graffiti lettering is complex and hard to read for people that aren't familiar with it. Bubble letters are fat letters without too many flourishes. This type of lettering is often done with an outline in a different color. Wide spray-paint tips are needed for fat cap lettering, and this style is quick and easy to read.Learn more about Graphic Design
