Michio Kushi, the renowned activist for natural foods and a macrobiotic diet in the United States, died December 28th, 2014 of pancreatic cancer in Boston, Mass. Throughout his life, Michio Kushi advocated for the natural foods movement through his participation in lectures and seminars held at universities around the world.
In recognition of his various contributions to fields such as macrobiotics, alternative health care, diet and world peace, Michio Kushi has received numerous honors and awards. The United Nations Society of Writers granted Kushi the Award of Excellence in 1999. The Smithsonian Institute also opened a permanent historical collection in Michio Kushi's name in 1999. The following year, Michio Kushi received the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award for his contributions to society.
