The Grinch lived on snowy Mount Crumpit, which was located just north of the Whos' hometown, Whoville. The Grinch is a character in Dr. Seuss's book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" published by Random House.
In the book, the Grinch is initially portrayed as a cold-hearted and grumpy creature who lives on a high mountain, from which he can observe the warm and loving people of Whoville as they enjoy Christmas. The Grinch himself hates Christmas. He devises a plan to disguise himself as Santa Claus and his dog Max as a reindeer, and then slide down on a sleigh to steal the Christmas tree, all the Christmas presents and firewood. He then brings all the stolen goods back to Mount Crumpit to throw them away. His heart changes as he hears the people of Whoville sing in joy instead of being sorrowful and resentful.
