Elisabeth Shue won multiple awards for her role in "Leaving Las Vegas," including the Independent Spirit Award, Chicago Film Critics Association Award and the Awards Community Circuit Award. Shue was also nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and BAFTA Award.
Shue lost the Academy Award for Best Actress to Susan Sarandon, for her role in "Dead Man Walking." In "Leaving Las Vegas," Shue plays Sera, a prostitute working for an abusive pimp named Yuri. Over the course of the film, Sera meets Ben, an alcoholic writer played by Nicolas Cage, and falls in love with him. Cage won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance.
