Donnie McClurkin got his start as a singer in his local church. He played the piano at his local youth choir, and formed a gospel group with his four sisters called The McClurkin Singers. After his stint with the group, he was discovered by Reverend Winans in 1983, and later went on to join Winans' ministry in Detroit. McClurkin is one of the top-selling gospel music artists of all time.
McClurkin claims that he was sexually molested by his relatives as a young child and, as a result, spent all of his time in church because he found solace in Jesus Christ. In church, he honed his skills as a singer and also learned to play musical instruments. After his time in Detroit, McClurkin completed his first album, called "Donnie McClurkin," in 1996. He later established his church, called Perfecting Faith Church, in Freeport, New York, and currently serves as the senior pastor.
McClurkin has often been called a homosexual; he claims that he had homosexual tendencies, but God delivered him. He is currently single and has no children. McClurkin has won three Grammys, 10 Stellar awards and two BET awards, and he has an estimated net worth of $5 million.
