David Bromstad became famous after winning the inaugural season of HGTV’s reality show “HGTV Design Star” in 2006. Bromstad went on to host “Color Splash with David Bromstad,” which launched in 2007, and “Color Splash Miami,” which launched in 2010, along with other HGTV shows.
Bromstad, born August 17, 1973, is from Cokata, Minnesota. He attended Wyzata High School and the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Bromstad initially pursued a career as a Disney illustrator before starting his own fantasy bedroom design company. After moving to Miami Beach, Florida, Bromstad tried out for “Design Star.”
The “Design Star” competition pitted Bromstad against nine other designers. His prize for winning the show was a new car and the chance to become the host of his own HGTV show. His “Color Splash” show ran for eight seasons from 2007 to 2012.
Bromstad went on to host “Design Star” in 2012. He also hosted the first season of “Design Star All Stars” and “The White Room Challenge,” also on HGTV. He appeared in several other programs on the network, including “Bang for Your Buck,” “HGTV Showdown” and “HGTV’d,” among others. In addition to his work in TV, Bromstad designed signature product lines for Grandin Road and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
