Despite initial reports that Amanda Blake's death was due to cancer, Blake's death certificate stated that her death was a result of AIDS complications including liver failure and hepatitis. Blake was thought to have contracted HIV from her fourth husband who had passed away a few years before her.
Amanda Blake was an avid supporter of animal welfare and owned a large number of animals including big cats such as lions and cheetahs. Her dedication to the cause lead to the opening of the Amanda Blake Memorial Wildlife Refuge in California.
Blake's health began to decline in the late 1970s when she was diagnosed with oral cancer and underwent surgery. This was likely the reason for the initial incorrect report of her cause of death.
