Time Inc. published Cottage Living magazine under its Southern Progress subsidiary from September 2004 to November 2008. The subsidiary published 10 issues annually, and by 2007, the magazine's circulation had risen to one million. As it made company-wide cutbacks, Time Inc. canceled the magazine, partly from lack of ad growth.
Cottage Living featured articles and ideas about interior and exterior decorating, gardening, cooking and entertaining, while promoting a laid-back and simple style. Each issue also gave readers the chance to view images and information on real cottages from across the United States. Time Inc. redirected the magazine's website, CottageLiving.com, to MyHomeIdeas.com, a website under This Old House magazine featuring cottage-style ideas for the home.
