Events in the overall family saga do not occur in the same order as the books' release dates. The book published seventh, Rebellion (1988), takes place first, in 1745, and focuses on MacGregors ancestor Serena. In from the Cold, a novella that appeared in the 1990 anthology Historical Christmas Stories, takes place in the late 18th century and tells the story of what brought the MacGregor family from Scotland to England.
For Now, Forever (1987) moves forward in time to recount how Daniel MacGregor met and wooed his wife, Anna. Playing the Odds (1985), Tempting Fate (1985) and All the Possibilities (1985) tell the stories of how MacGregor plays matchmaker to ensure his three children find appropriate mates. In One Mans Art (1985), MacGregor plays matchmaker to his daughter-in-laws brother, Grant Campbell.
The remaining books focus on the next generation. In The MacGregor Brides (1997), Daniel MacGregor makes sure three of his granddaughters find spouses, and The Winning Hand (1998) is the story of Grant Campbells son finding a wife. In The MacGregor Grooms (1998), MacGregor is matchmaking again, but this time for three of his grandsons, and in The Perfect Neighbor (1999), Grants daughter Cybil falls in love.Learn more about Fiction
