The Disney channel series "Sonny with a Chance" starred Demi Lovato as Sonny Munroe and featured cast members Sterling Knight, Tiffany Thorton, Allisyn Ashley Arm and Brandon Mychal Smith. The show ran from 2009 to 2011 and followed Lovato's character after she relocated to Los Angeles to star in a sketch comedy show for young people.
Lovato was already a successful singer and actress when she signed on to star as Alison "Sonny" Munroe in "Sonny with a Chance." During the show's run, she made two films for the Disney Channel and released a new album. She left the show in 2010 to overcome personal issues.
Knight co-starred as Chad Dylan Cooper, who starred in the dramatic show that rivaled Sonny's sketch comedy. Chad and Sonny eventually dated and broke up, though Chad retained feelings for her. When Lovato left the show, Knight starred in the spin-off, entitled "So Random!"
Thorton starred as Tawni Hart, who became Sonny's best friend. Arm played the quiet and eccentric Zora, who was also featured heavily in the spin-off series. Smith played Nico Harris, an actor on Sonny's show who suffered unrequited love for the starring actress on Chad's show, "Mackenzie Falls." He also appeared in the spin-off. "So Random!" aired on the Disney Channel from 2011 to 2012.
