The bachelor for Season 19 of "The Bachelor" was 33-year-old Iowa farmer Chris Soules. Among the finalists for Soules' heart were Whitney, a fertility nurse from Illinois; Kaitlyn, a dance instructor from Canada; and Becca, a chiropractic assistant from California.
Season 19 started off with 30 contestants. Of particular note for the beginning of the season was Kimberly, a 28-year-old yoga instructor from New York who was eliminated in the first week but returned in week two to beg Chris for a second chance, which she received. Britt, a 27-year-old waitress, received the "first impression" rose on the first night of the show. Kaitlyn and Whitney were the first two ladies to receive a one-on-one date with Chris.
By week nine, only three women remained: Kaitlyn, Becca and Whitney. They all accompanied Chris on a vacation to Bali, where Kaitlyn was eliminated. In the final week of "The Bachelor," remaining contestants Becca and Whitney travelled to Chris' hometown of Arlington, Iowa to meet his family and await the final decision. Chris' family demonstrated a clear preference for Whitney, though Chris' father suspected that Chris preferred Becca.
On their final date together, Becca and Chris admitted their reservations about committing to each other. Becca said she thought she could fall in love with Chris, but that she was unwilling to make any promises about moving her life to Arlington. Whitney, on the other hand, demonstrated a clear dedication to Chris and his small town life. In the end, Chris picked a thrilled Whitney to be his wife.
