"Tartuffe" is a satirical playcomprising five acts. It tells the story of Tartuffe who, although ostensibly a pious Christian, is also an opportunistic hypocrite seeking to cheat the character of Orgonout of his inheritance.
Owing to his good reputation and outward religious virtue, Tartuffe escapes punishment until the end of the play. Finally he is jailed by the king, who returns Orgon's rightful property to him.Learn more about Plays
