Photographs of submarines are available on websites such as Archives.gov and NavSource.org. These websites have a collection of photographs of U.S. submarines and navy ships. Keeping these photographs is a way of preserving the naval history of the United States in form of pictures.
Photographs of submarines that were commissioned in the early 1900s may be hard to come by. However, Archives.gov keeps records of some of the first submarines to be commissioned. The site has a clear black-and-white photograph of the first submarine to be commissioned, the USS Holland. She entered active service on October 12, 1900. There are several other naval history websites that provide factual and up-to-date information as well as photographs of submarines.
