M.C. Beaton was born in Glasgow, Scotland, where she first worked as a bookseller in charge of the fiction department. From there, she became a theater critic, fashion editor and then a reporter for the Daily Express. After marrying her husband, Harry Scott Gibbons, and having her son, she moved to the United States. She and her husband both worked for The Star for a time, but wanting to stay home with her son, M.C. Beaton began writing romance novels.
