Billboard magazine is recognized industry-wide as a leading source for lists of top-selling artists, albums and songs. Rolling Stone and Spin magazines also compile their own annual lists, often with criteria other than sales numbers.
Billboard's main list is the "Hot 100." It's updated weekly and reflects songs across all genres ranked by streaming activity data, sales data and airplay audience impressions as measured by Nielsen Music. The Billboard website also features "Year-End" Hot 100 charts for years past, charts reflecting emerging artists, dance/electronic music, R&;B and pop. Rolling Stone and Spin magazine feature alternative annual lists of subjective favorites, mostly chosen by staff.
