Born on October 22, 1942, Annette Joanne Funicello began acting at age 12 when she was personally chosen by Walt Disney as one of the original "Mouseketeers" on the popular series, "The Mickey Mouse Club." Funicello went on to star with Frankie Avalon in five beach party movies in the 1960s as well as numerous other movies. In 2013, Funicello died at the age of 70, following a long battle with multiple sclerosis. In 1993, she founded the Annette Funicello Research Fund for Neurological Disorders, which continues to fund research for multiple sclerosis and other neurological disorders, as of 2015.
