Lists of past "American Idol" contestants can be found on the show's website archives by season. Each season has a section for View Contestants and View Photos, while some seasons include Read Recaps and Watch Videos. A thumbnail picture of each season's winner marks that particular season's archive.
For example, when a user clicks View Contestants for Season 1, the top 10 contestants are presented in descending order from the winner down to the 10th-place finisher. The rest of the contestants who did not make the top 10 get listed on the bottom of the Web page as the Best of the Rest. The top 10 finishers have color photographs, while other contestants who appeared on the show have black-and-white thumbnails for Season 1.
Later seasons, such as Season 12, have color photographs for everyone who made the show. The Best of the Rest have a separate tab toward the top of the page instead of a location at the bottom. Top 10 finalists in later seasons are listed in alphabetical order by their first name, and their elimination date is superimposed on the picture.
Individuals can click on each contestant's picture to see a brief biography of the person. Information from Season 1 includes age at the time of the show, hometown, favorite song, first concert and the reason why the contestant wants to be on "American Idol." Season 12 contestants have highlight videos, social media posts and interviews attached to their biographies for fans to enjoy.
