It is not possible to purchase a franchise in Wehrenberg Theatres, a family-owned chain of movie theaters that is the oldest and largest in the United States. Wehrenberg Theatres operates 15 movie theaters in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota.
The company began in 1906 when Fred Wehrenberg opened a movie theater next to his saloon, which also served as the concession stand for the theater. The company grew throughout the 20th century as the Wehrenbergs opened movie theaters and drive-ins in and around St. Louis, Missouri. Eventually, the theater chain expanded into neighboring states. Ron Krueger, Fred Wehrenberg's grandson, is the current Chairman and CEO of the company.
