According to MSN Entertainment, the poetic character Frosty the Snowman was brought to life by a magic silk hat. The hat belonged to a magician named Professor Hinkle, who was hired to perform magic tricks for bored students.
Professor Hinkle was angry that his magic tricks did not work, and he threw his silk hat away, as told in the 1969 television special "Frosty the Snowman." Once school was dismissed, the children from the classroom began building a snowman. Professor Hinkle's rabbit ran outside with the silk hat, and a gust of wind carried it away. A girl named Karen caught the hat and put it on Frosty's head, causing Frosty to come to life. The Frosty character was introduced in a popular song recorded in 1950 by Gene Autry.
