Some brands of animation software include Autodesk, Blender and Adobe, as of 2015. These brands offer professional-quality software for creating both 2-D and 3-D animations.
Autodesk offers a range of animation software, including Maya, Soft Image and 3DS Max. Maya is the industry standard for 3-D animation, offering rendering, modeling and simulation effects for a range of animation needs. Soft Image focuses more specifically on character modeling, while 3DS Max offers more in-depth rendering and compositing tools.
Blender is a free, open source 3-D animation software that offers all the basic animation tools in a single package. The program supports rendering, modeling, lighting, texturing and post-processing capabilities in a platform that is highly functional and available for all major operating systems.
Adobe offers a number of prominent animation products, including Flash, After Effects and Photoshop. Flash is the most commonly used tool for 2-D animation, and the program was widely used even before Adobe purchased it. A vector-based animation program, Flash is among the cheapest and easiest to use. After Effects is another useful editing program that offers a wide set of tools to manipulate existing animations. Although less commonly used for animation, Photoshop offers powerful drawing tools that allow users to create frame-by-frame animation.
