Jean M. Auel began researching the Ice Age in 1977, which included learning flint knapping, fire making and leather tanning skills. According to Amazon.com, anthropologists and archaeologists esteem Auel’s extensive research. Her first book, “The Clan of the Cave Bear,” introduces the reader to an orphaned Cro-Magnon girl named Ayla, adopted by a Neanderthal clan. The “Earth’s Children Series” follows Ayla as she meets other Cro-Magnons, falls in love and migrates along the Danube River valley to France.
