The website of The Popcorn Board, a non-profit organization formed under an Act of Congress, lists two books under The Popcorn Booklist page that are about the history of popcorn: "Popped Culture: The Social History of Popcorn in America" by Andrew F. Smith and "What Makes Popcorn Pop?" by Dave Woodside. "Popped Culture: The Social History of Popcorn in America" was published by the Smithsonian Institute in 2001. It discusses the different cooking methods used to make popcorn as well as is history and various legends associated with it.

With its first edition published by Atheneum in 1980, "What Makes Popcorn Pop?" also highlights the different historical aspects of popcorn, including usage, growing, harvesting and different myths related to it.
