The first book in the "Father Tim" series by Jan Karon is "Home to Holly Springs," which introduces the main character, Father Tim Kavanaugh. This book was followed by "In the Company of Others."
In the "Father Tim" series, Father Tim Kavanaugh is a Episcopal priest who is very aware of the power that words have. He ends up travelling to his boyhood town and encountering many memories, some good and others bad. While in town, he receives an invitation to have tea with two women. This meeting initiates a process that helps Father Tim heal wounds from his past. He becomes engaged in a mystery that leads him to understanding his parents and other things that happened in his hometown a long time ago.
In the follow up novel, "In the Company of Others," Father Tim and Cynthia travel to Ireland. The plan is to research the Kavanaugh family history. Their stay begins in a charming fishing lodge, but things take a turn for the worse when a meaningful painting is stolen from the lodge. This story depicts how some people go to extreme lengths to hide the truth, as well as how others have a powerful need to confess something.
