As of February 2015, there are 10 books in the Blossom Street series by Debbie Macomber, beginning with "The Shop on Blossom Street." The 9th and 10th books in the series, "Starting Now" and "Blossom Street Brides," have both appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list.
The Blossom Street series tells the story of the main character, Lydia Hoffman, who is a two-time cancer survivor. Each book is set in Seattle at her small shop where she offers a beginner's knitting class. Supporting characters enter the story by joining the knitting circle. Lydia's battle and recovery from cancer plays a large part in the storyline. She has a renewed sense of purpose and living life to the fullest extent, yet she encounters troubles with men who are unwilling to commit due to their feelings about her cancer. She works through these issues with other female characters in the book, and lasting friendships are established.
Each book in the series focuses on adversity through the eyes of many different women. Topics include divorce, infertility, eating disorders and depression. As each character's story unfolds, other characters provide support and guidance to one another. Written in first-person narrative, readers are drawn in by the real-life issues each character faces.
