Abrams both bachelor programs with honors. While at Gainesville, Abrams was also a member of the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority, where she briefly presided as chapter president. Like many other meteorology students at Tallahassee, Abrams first practiced her forecasting skills on university radio broadcasts. She also acted as a teaching assistant.

Abram's first professional opportunity came as a morning meteorologist for the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, WTXL. Abrams joined the Weather Channel's ranks shortly afterward in 2003, where she served as co-host of her first program, "Weekend View." Between 2006 and 2009, Abrams worked on several other programs, including but not limited to "Abrams and Bettes: Beyond the Forecast," "Weather Center" and "Wake Up Al," the latter with veteran media personality Al Roker.
