Liezel Martinez was born Anna Lisa Sumilang on March 27, 1967. She was a Philippine actress known for her roles in films such as "Portrait of an Angel," "Poor Little Rich Girl" and "Liezl at ang 7 hoods." Martinez died on March 14, 2015, in Manila from complications related to cancer. Her mother was the renowned Philippine actress Amalia Fuentes, and her father was the Philippine actor Romeo Vasquez.
Liezel Martinez married Albert Martinez, also a Phillippine actor, and had three children with him, including two daughters, Alyanna and Alyssa, and a son, Alfonso. Martinez's mother objected to her relationship with Albert, but the couple eloped and soon after moved to the United States, where they remained for an extended period.
Martinez was part of a large theatrical family with cousins and a sister-in-law who were also screen actors. Her mother, Fuentes, was a star of the Philippine screen who was known as the Filipino Elizabeth Taylor. Fuentes also wrote and directed screenplays, and as of 2015, she runs her own film production company in the Philippines. Fuentes' two younger brothers, Martinez's uncles, Alex and Avaro, were also actors.
Martinez was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2008, which progressed to Stage 4 cancer by 2011. The illness led to her death in 2015.
