MTV offered her a job after her internship, which led to her relocating to the city permanently.
Gorder later earned a design degree from New Yorks School of Visual Arts and then began working with a graphic arts firm called Duffy Design. A production company later contacted Gorder and offered her to try out for a new reality TV show. In 2000, Gorder and five other interior designers starred in Trading Spaces, where she re-designed rooms on a budget.
