Movies in which Billy Bob Thornton has starred include "Bad Santa," "Bad News Bears," "Sling Blade," "Armageddon" and "Monster's Ball." He began his on-screen film career in 1986, with a small role in the film "Hunter's Blood."
In his role for "Bad Santa," Billy Bob Thornton plays a down-on-his-luck con-artist named Willie, who scams his way into money each year before drinking and gambling it away. He sets his sights on his next target, a shopping mall, by becoming the mall's Santa for the season. While working, he learns the mall's layout and security procedures. His plan is sidetracked, however, when he defends a bullied boy named Thurman Merman, played by Brett Kelly, who begins to trail him. The story unfolds in unexpected and hilarious ways, and Willie begins to feel a sense of morality.
In "Bad News Bears," Thornton plays Morris Buttermaker, a former minor league baseball player who spends his time drinking and fighting. His lawyer, played by Marcia Gay Harden, tires of his behavior and assigns him to coach a Little League team. Little does he know, the team is a group of misfits, some of whom behave the way he does, and he ultimately must polish himself in the process of helping the players. His goal becomes to not only straighten out some of the kids, but also to turn the team into champions.
