Benfica TV is a subscription-based Portuguese television station owned and operated by the S.L. Benfica soccer team. It is the first television station in the world to broadcast its own games live.
The Benfica TV station first aired in late 2008 with a UEFA Cup match between Napoli and Benfica. Since then, the station offers repeat matches of old games, interviews, highlights of matches and soccer analysis. The channel also includes soccer matches outside of the Portuguese football league system, including the English Premier League. In February 2015, Benfica TV became the soccer team's second main source of revenue, at an estimated 16.5 million Euros, according to the company's quarterly report.
