The SiriusXM lifetime subscription plan continues for the life of the receiver equipment. A receiver is transferable up to a maximum of three times under the plan but does require a transfer fee. However, as of 2015, SiriusXM no longer offers the lifetime subscription plan to new subscribers.
The SiriusXM lifetime plan is only required to provide certain content to its subscribers; the user agreement doesn’t guarantee that its users can always expect to receive premium content. The user agreement gives SiriusXM the right to make changes to the existing lifetime plan and to charge for additional premium channels. When Sirius and XM Satellite Radio initially merged, some XM content also became unavailable to existing lifetime subscribers.
Customers should read and understand the terms and conditions to most lifetime plans carefully. On some occasions, companies that offer a lifetime plan may slowly begin providing less content over time. This encourages customers with a lifetime plan to switch to other subscription plans, creating more revenue for the company on a long-term basis.
As of 2016, SiriusXM mainly offers monthly subscription plans that begin at about $11 per month. The company also offers Internet streaming subscriptions for customers who don't own a satellite radio.
