Ben Carson and his family live in West Friendship, Maryland. Carson is originally from Detroit, Michigan, and was born on Sept. 18, 1951. He and his wife Lacena have three sons: Murray, Benjamin Jr. and Rhoeyce Carson.
Carson graduated from Yale University, then went on to receive his master's degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. He performed his residency in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. After a year at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Australia, he returned to Johns Hopkins. He became director of pediatric neurosurgery in 1985. As of 2015, Carson has written six books. One is an autobiography and two others are about his thoughts regarding faith, success and hard work. The first book was published in 1996. In May 2015, Carson announced that he was running as a Republican nominee for the 2016 presidential election.
