Who Is the Author of "Sleeping Beauty"?

There are multiple versions of "Sleeping Beauty," but the original story is credited to Charles Perrault. Perrault's version was published in 1697. The version that the Brothers Grimm are known for writing, titled "Little Briar-Rose," is an orally translated version of Perrault's story.

The original fairy tales were often unlike the happy ending stories that many people have heard over the years or seen on film. These stories were originally told to teach morals and lessons to children. The Grimm's versions kept many aspects of these darker tales, causing parents to object to the harsh punishments given to the villains of the stories. Some of the heroes and heroines also had unfortunate events befall them as well. Due to the objections, the Grimm's softened their tales so that they could appeal to a wider audience.
