"In Memory of My Dear Grandchild Elizabeth Bradstreet" was written by Anne Bradstreet, who was a famous English poet. The complete title of this poem, which she wrote in remembrance of her granddaughter, is "In Memory of My Dear Grandchild Elizabeth Bradstreet, Who Deceased August, 1665, Being a Year and Half Old."
Anne Bradstreet was born in 1612 in Northampton, England, at a time when women received little formal education. However, she was tutored by her father and eight other tutors. She also fed her curiosity through reading the works of great authors. Due to her father's title as the steward of the Earl of Lincoln estate, she also had access to the manor's library. Bradstreet eventually immigrated to the New World in 1630 with her husband and father.
