Some attractions at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh include fireworks, concerts, grandstand shows, rides and games, and exhibits. The fair also features a folk festival and free entertainment such as puppet shows for kids, comedians, acrobat shows and animal races. Additionally, the fair features competitions such as livestock competitions, horse shows, cooking contests and a graphic design competition.
Exhibits include "Agriculture Today," "Got to Be NC Agriculture," "Mobile Dairy Classroom," "Soil & Water Conservation," and "Wildlife Resources Commisssion." The concerts include Christian rock acts, country music acts, rock acts and R&B acts, as well as orchestra performances and Bollywood-style entertainment. Additional music acts that appear on the small musical stages include cover bands, heavy metal bands, jazz groups and bluegrass bands.
The rides and games at the fair include both Kiddieland and an area for general visitors. Popular rides include Mighty Mouse Spinning Coaster, Super Cyclone Coaster, Music Express, Magic Maze Glass House and Mega Drop. Popular rides in Kiddieland include Balloon Fiesta Ferris Wheel and Pirate's Island Interactive Play Port. The fair also features carnival games and food vendors.
The North Carolina State Fair, first held in 1850, brings in over 800,000 visitors and is one of the largest events in the state each year.
