Annual events in Seattle include Ballard Seafood Fest, Bite of Seattle, Seafair, Bumbershoot and the Seattle Christmas Ship Festival. While many outdoor events are held during the summer, other events are held throughout the year.
Ballard Seafood Fest is one of many annual food festivals in Seattle. Since 1974 this festival has been held every July in the Ballard neighborhood. The festival celebrates both Ballard's long-time connection to the fishing industry, as well as its Nordic heritage. Festivities include a salmon barbecue, local music and arts and crafts.
Another annual food festival is Bite of Seattle, which also takes place in July. This festival features food from Seattle restaurants, both old and new, as well as wine tastings and craft beer from local breweries.
Seafair is one of Seattle's most iconic traditions. This festival runs for over a month, from June to August, and includes the Seafair Parade, boat racing, airplane shows and barbecues. Seafair also includes the Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, which is one of the largest races in the United States.
Bumbershoot is held in Seattle every Labor Day Weekend. This is Seattle's largest music festival and features not only live music, but also comedy, food, dance, theater and visual arts.
One of Seattle's most popular holiday traditions is the Argosy Cruises Christmas Ship Festival, which has been held every December since its inception in 1949. Argosy ships sail throughout the Puget Sound, stopping at waterfront communities and beaches while choirs on the ships sing Christmas carols over loud speakers.
