Alicia Machada was born on Dec. 6, 1976 in Maracay, Venezuela. She is an actress, singer, TV host and winner of the 1996 Miss Universe contest. In 1995, she won the titles of Miss Venezuela and Miss Yaracuy. Her father is of Cuban decent and is a relative of Gerardo Machado, a former dictator of Cuba.
After winning Miss Universe, claims were made that Machado was gaining too much weight and should be replaced by her runner-up. Donald Trump made controversial comments about Machada, referring to her as "an eating machine." Despite the controversy, Machado was able to retain her title as Miss Universe. In 1998, she landed a role on the soap opera "Samantha." The role landed her a Midia award in Spain and an Ace award in New York.
Machado has also had acting roles on "Infierno en el Paraiso," "Estamos unidos," "Secreto de amor" and "Mambo y canela." In 2005, Machado became engaged to baseball star Bobby Abreu, but the engagement ended after accusations of infidelity surfaced.
Machado gave birth to daughter Dinorah Valentina in 2008. After claims were made that the father was a drug lord, Muchado came forward claiming the father was a business man named Rafael Hernandez Linares.
