Akiane Kramarik is famous because she is considered a child prodigy in art. At the age of 8, Kramarik, a self-taught artist, completed her first 5-foot oil painting, "Prince of Peace." Her talent caught the eye of talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who invited Kramarik, then 10 years old, onto her show as a guest.
Born on July 9, 1994, in Mount Morris, Illinois, Karmarik began drawing at the age of 4. She used drawing and later painting as a way of expressing impressions she experienced in her mind. She used any item she had on hand, including lipstick, foods, candles, pencils or charcoal. These impressions included realistic pictures of faces. Her parents entered her art into local exhibitions where she received accolades and skepticism from the community that Kramarik was the artist due to her age. Before the age of 8, Kramarik added poetry into her art repertoire.
Since appearing on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," Kramarik has appeared on CNN, "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," and "The Katie Couric Show." Her first self-portrait sold for $10,000. She proceeded to donate a portion of the sales to charity. She additionally had her paintings purchased by the U.S. Embassy in Singapore.
