Some of Aerosmith’s greatest hits are “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way” and “Janie’s Got a Gun.” As of 2015, Aerosmith has sold more than 150 million records and is the best-selling American rock band of all time.
The power ballad “Dream On,” released on Aerosmith’s self-titled debut album in 1973, was the band’s first charting single. When Aerosmith reissued the song in 1976, it became the group’s first top-10 hit.
Aerosmith released the hit song “Sweet Emotion” on the album “Toys in the Attic” in 1975. The song is memorable for its classic guitar riffs and for lead singer Steven Tyler’s use of a talk box to distort his voice. The song “Walk This Way” was also on the “Toys in the Attic” album, but it only became a top-10 hit when Aerosmith reissued the song in 1977.
Aerosmith’s 1989 album “Pump” contained the song “Janie’s Got a Gun,” which became a surprise hit. The song is about the revenge fantasy of a victim of child sexual abuse. In February 2015, Tyler revealed he has recorded a new version of "Janie's Got a Gun" for an upcoming movie based on the song.
As of 2015, Aerosmith has won four Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards and 10 MTV Video Music Awards. Lead singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013.
