Activities that are available at the Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival include rides, dancing, arts and crafts, a car and truck show, live animal encounters, a talent show and live music. The annual festival's entertainment line up and activities vary from year to year.
The Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival began in 1990 to bring people to Fellsmere by selling frog leg dinners. The group that organized the festival collected 400 pounds of frogs. The festival ended up being much more popular than expected, and the frog leg dinners sold out every night that first year. The festival has earned Fellsmere the nickname "Frog Leg Capital of the World." The festival's main food options are frog legs and gator tails, with sides such as grits, coleslaw and hushpuppies.
As of February 2015, the festival has set Guinness Book World Records for the world's largest frog festival and for serving the most frog legs in one day. Over 7,000 pounds of frog and 2,000 pounds of gator are now served over the course of the festival.
Money raised by the festival has been used to restore the Old Fellsmere School, which is used during the festival. The former school is also used as city administrative offices and hosts a Boys &; Girls club.
