ABC offers free live TV through its nationwide network of local affiliates. As of 2015, ABC owns, operates or has broadcast agreements with 242 stations. ABC also extends its reach internationally with stations in Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Federal Communications Commission requires that the major U.S. networks provide broadcast service free of charge. To receive these channels, a consumer must have an antenna and a television with a digital tuner or converter box. These channels are often included in paid services such as cable and satellite television. ABC has also created a live streaming Internet service. It is only available selected cities, including Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco.
