Three-dimensional animation is taking three-dimensional objects, either real or virtual, and making them move. As of 2014, 3-D animation typically involves computer-generated imagery, but the original 3-D animation was stop-motion or claymation serial photography of solid objects moved slightly between each picture, which was then strung together creating animated action.
The leading 3-D CGI animation company in 2014 is Pixar, creators of "Toy Story," the first full-length all-CGI movie. "Monsters University," "Monsters, Inc.," "Up," "Tangled," "Cars 2" and "Brave" are animated films available in 3-D. The "Toy Story" series is also available in 3-D. Pixar plans to release "Inside Out" in 3-D in June 2015.
