La localidad is a word that journalists often use to mean town.
el mercado municipal en la localidad de Tortosa
the market in the town of Tortosa
una pequeña localidad costera
a small seaside town
If you intend going to a movie or play, the word comes in handy, as it also means ticket. You might see a sign like this, or see it in the newspaper:
venta de localidades en taquilla
tickets on sale at the box office
