If you are planning on flying with an infant, you should first be advised that it is strongly recommended that any infant or small child weighing under 40 pounds be secured in an FAA approved child safety seat. If you choose to hold your infant in your lap, the child must be over 14 days and under 2 years old. A birth certificate is needed for age validation if the child is under 2. If your child
. is under 14 days old you will also have to provide a medical release for the child. Any other mode of transportation is safe from birth on, just make sure to have the child properly restrained.
