"Aristotle was born in Greece in 384 BC. He was a student of Plato and became one of the most well known philosophers in ancient Greece. In the treatise by Aristotle called The Poetics he laid out the six elements of drama. The six elements of drama are based on the belief that tragedy is the highest form of drama. Many playwrights throughout the many years since Aristotle wrote these elements
. have used them as guide for their works up to and including the well known Shakespeare. The first element is plot. The plot is what happens during the play or the sequence of events. The second element is theme. Theme is about what everything means in the play as opposed to the factual steps or occurrences in the plot. Character is the third element of drama. The character is the part the actor portrays in the play. The fourth element is diction or dialogue. These are the words the playwright uses in the play. The fifth element is music or rhythm. This element refers to the sound, rhythm and melody in the speeches. The sixth element is spectacle. Spectacle is the visual aspect of the play such as costumes, scenery and special effects."
