Areola Color

The areola roughly delineates the location of the mammary gland ducts. The areola color comes from the abundance of eumelanin and pheomelanin. Eumelanin is the brown pigment and pheomelanin is the red pigment. Areola color may change because of hormonal change, medication and aging. Pregnancy can also affect the color and size or the areola.
