These days it seems like there are lists for just about everything. There are lists about how to loose weight, lists of the hottest celebrities and lists of the richest people in the world. While some of these lists may have entertainment value most of them are not very important. In contrast there is a list that is very important. It is a list of the nine fruits of the Spirit.The 9 fruits
. of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This list is found in in the Holy Bible in Galatians 5:22. The Spirit that is referred to is the Holy Spirit, one person of the triune God. The fruits of the Spirit are qualities that are seen in a person who has the Holy Spirit living within them. Each of the fruits has its own meaning and they all work in concert to create a holy character in a person.Joy is an overwhelming sense of being blessed and cared for that is not dependent on life's changing circumstances. Peace is the ability to live with other people without constant bickering, fighting and violence. Longsuffering is the ability for a person to suffer for a long time. Kindness is the ability for a person to treat others with with a sense of helpfulness and compassion. Goodness is a general sense of doing the right thing no matter what the circumstances. Faithfulness is the ability to trust in God and his promises based upon the reasoning that he has never yet failed to keep a promise. Gentleness is the ability of a person to live life with a soft hand and a light touch, seeking to uplift people by influence and not by force. Self control is ability of a person to resist their natural impulses when giving into them would mean harming themselves or others. Finally, love is the culmination of all the other fruits. When a person makes the decision to turn to Christ they will receive the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit will give these nine fruits to that person so long as that person willing accepts them.
